John Demsey hosts Budd and Anderson & Sheppard

Frederic Malle and John Demsey in conversation.

It was a swellegant, elegant occasion in New York last week as Budd stepped out with Anderson & Sheppard to celebrate the two companies’ presence in the Big Apple.

Estee Lauder Executive Group President, John Demsey, graciously paid homage to our two firms by hosting a cocktail party, in partnership with his equally elegant friends, photographer Jonathan Becker and perfumer Frederic Malle at his extraordinary townhouse in Manhattan.

The Upper East Side brownstone, conceived alongside the ingenious interior designer Bibi Monnohan is a breathtaking riot of colour and texture, and we were privileged to showcase our work within its walls.

In an age of neutral tones and clean lines, Demsey’s much documented residence is like a shot of adrenalin and wakes the senses, bringing a smile to the face of anyone who enters. Walls covered in a mind-boggling collection of photography keep the eye roving and reinforce the importance of dressing up and having fun.

A carefully curated collection of mannequins and accessories that reflected Demsey’s own tastes and fitted discreetly within the décor scheme was displayed around the home and conceived to reflect the playful and creative side of a gentleman’s wardrobe, juxtaposing the concept of traditional Savile Row and St. James’s craftsmanship.

It was lovely to engage with some of our customers socially and see their shirts “in action.” It was also great to meet several guests with whom we have long corresponded or followed but with whom we have never had the chance to meet face to face. These included Vanity Fair Menswear Editor, Chris Legaspi, Nick Sullivan, Fashion Director of Esquire, Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist and Karl–Edwin Guerre, style commentator and photographer of website, Guerreisms. One huge highlight of the evening was the opportunity to meet with the iconic writer Fran Lebowitz, a legend in her own right!

It was a wonderful night in wonderful surroundings. A big thank you to John Demsey and fellow hosts, Jonathan Becker and Frederic Malle for their kind hospitality and welcome.
