Matt's designs are always drawn from life - from years spent on the road, and a wardrobe built on the belief that you should wear what you love. For the Gio Oxford, he pulled together three threads of his own story: his American roots, his devotion to British shirtmaking, and his long love affair with Italy.

The name is a nod to Gio Ponti, the mid-century architect whose work at the Parco dei Principi Hotel in Sorrento has stayed with Matt ever since he first saw it. Ponti's signature "blue infinity" - that unmistakable Mediterranean blue - became the starting point for a colour all Matt's own, one that sets the Gio Oxford apart as much for its tone as for its stripe. 

Classic Oxford cloths tend to favour the Bengal stripe, tightly and predictably spaced. Matt wanted something different - a stripe with more scale, more presence, in a blue that steps well away from the usual navy or sky blue. The result is a cloth that's genuinely versatile: at home, in a shirt or a dressing gown, easy by day and sharp by night, and one that only gets better with wear, softening beautifully wash after wash.
