Our new PJ shirts represent something a little more modern and casual for Budd. Perhaps a little unexpected to some of our more traditional customers We were inspired to introduce pyjama shirts into our ready to wear collection after producing several for our bespoke customers, and also seeing many customers in the shop purchasing our pyjama sets with the intention of only wearing the shirt. Last summer, several members of the press and menswear world purchased them to wear as separates to Pitti Uomo and London Fashion Week. Feeling a little sorry for the discarded bottoms and noting an opportunity to enhance the model for day wear, the Pyjama Shirt was developed.
Budd’s PJ shirts are styled to be worn alone over shorts or trousers, or with a blazer or jacket. They are the epitome of today’s much bandied “lux-lounge” culture. Cutter and Keeper of Patterns, James Macauslan describes the shirts as sartorially casual, commenting that they look as at home on the beach as they do worn elegantly on a night out.
We have made two versions of the pyjama shirt; cream silk with navy piping (£385), and navy poplin with white piping (£275). They are sized in Small to Extra Large, and are sized as per our existing casual and safari shirts. The shirts feature an informal, camp collar, sometimes known as a cabana collar, that is notched, soft and unstructured for a relaxed vibe. The out-breast pocket, piped edges and straight bottom are evocative of our classic pyjamas, whilst the split yoke and button cuff take their cue from our classic men’s shirts. The silk is pre-shrunk and milled in England, whilst the poplin is milled in Switzerland. Our pyjama shirts are made by hand by our team in Andover.
If you get hooked on the PJ shirt style, then why not explore other cloth and piping ideas, taking advantage of our bespoke services for a perfect Summer shirt.
