Christmas At Home With... Chris Modoo

Christopher Modoo is both a designer and menswear journalist. 2019 sees the launch of his much anticipated menswear label, Kit Blake. (@chrismodoo)

Favourite tipple…

At Christmas it has to be Baileys…generously poured over ice from a litre bottle purchased on a special offer from Tesco. Ideally accompanied with Quality Street.

I would like to share a turkey with…

My grandparents. They have all passed away now but Christmas is a time I always think about them. I was an only child but grew up in a large extended family so Christmas was always spent with them and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

What I wear to open my Christmas stocking…

New pyjamas, comfy slippers and an old velvet smoking jacket.

Presents, before or after lunch?

Definitely before and usually with a breakfast of champagne and smoked salmon. We sometimes have table presents…small token gifts to open before lunch.

Does the tree stay up for the full 12 days of Christmas…

No. We take it down on the 1st or 2nd January. That is long enough and we usually start quite early anyway.

How best to celebrate NYE…

We have no traditions for NYE and we like to do something different every year…it could be a family party, a dinner with friends or, my favourite, a night in alone with my wife.

On NYE I shall be wearing…

This year we will be in Marrakesh and I will be wearing black tie. I am using the exotic location as an excuse to wear a cream dinner jacket, as I have never worn one before. I have recently designed one for my own label, Kit Blake, so this will be the prototype. I will wear it with tropical worsted black evening trousers, a pleated dress shirt (no studs), a dark red moire silk Budd cummerbund and a slim black barathea bow. A simply folded white linen square and velvet albert slippers will complete my outfit.
