The Raglan Sleeve Shirt

The Raglan Sleeve Shirt

Introducing our Raglan Sleeve shirt, made from a pattern found in the Budd archives, this casual style shirt is loose fitting and soft on the shoulders.

The Raglan Sleeve is so called due to it's distinguishing characteristic to extend in one piece fully to the collar, leaving a diagonal seam from the underarm to the collarbone, giving the garment a relatively undefined look.

Named after Lord Raglan, the 1st Baron Raglan, the Raglan Sleeve was created by Aquascutum who made a coat for the Baron after the loss of his arm in the Battle of Waterloo to allow him more freedom and greater movement in battle.

The collar of the shirt harks back to an old 70s style with the additional styling details of a slight curve at the back. The flat hem of the shirt adds another casual edge, altogether creating a good, comfortable casual shirt.

A small quantity of our Raglan Sleeve shirts have been made up at our Andover workroom in luxurious linen and cashmerello (a wonderful mix of cashmere and cotton) and are available to try on at our London store. If this shirt takes your fancy our cutter's can offer this style at bespoke level. For enquiries please contact us at customer services@wordpress or +44 (0) 207 493 0139.
